Basil is a highly accomplished dental specialist with a solid academic background and extensive clinical experience. He holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) in Prosthodontics from the University of Otago. He has also spent countless hours on continuing education and skill development over the last 20 years.
Dr Basil is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). Over and above his Specialist Prosthodontic training, he is also trained to provide effective Oral Appliance Therapy to manage Obstructive Sleep apnea and snoring, and when necessary, he incorporates it into the Prosthodontic rehabilitation for his patients for their long-term well-being.
With over 12 years of clinical experience in Prosthodontics, Basil has developed a reputation for excellence in prosthodontics, implant treatments, and cosmetic dentistry. He is committed to staying current with the latest advances in dental technology and techniques and is passionate about providing his patients with the highest quality care possible. His patients appreciate his empathetic and attentive approach towards them.
He has worked in hospitals and private dental settings in New Zealand and overseas. In addition to his clinical work, Basil was actively involved in teaching and research. He has held a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Otago dental school in Dunedin. His research interests focused on understanding dental ceramics mechanisms of failure to maximise restoration longevity, publishing numerous articles in leading dental journals and co-authoring dental implantology textbooks.
Outside of his work in dentistry, Basil enjoys spending time with his family (wife Nada and three children) and friends. He loves travelling and exploring new places. He is also a novice horologist (that’s the art and science of watchmaking).
